Calculation approach

  • Start with gross annual income or convert hourly, weekly or fortnightly pay to annual income
  • Apply the selected Australian financial year tax settings
  • Calculate income tax, Medicare and selected repayments
  • Show employer super separately from cash take-home pay
  • Break results into weekly, fortnightly, monthly and annual amounts
  • Show assumptions clearly so users understand what is included

What users should check

  • Correct tax year
  • Resident status and tax-free threshold
  • Private health and Medicare settings
  • HECS/HELP or other study loan settings
  • Salary sacrifice, deductions and other income
  • Centrelink payment type, rent and family details where relevant
