Centrelink estimates
Centrelink, tax and income estimates
Centrelink estimates are different from standard tax estimates. Tax is generally based on annual taxable income, while many Services Australia payments use fortnightly income tests, partner income, rent, assets, children, age and eligibility rules. This guide explains how to treat the calculator results.
Why a Centrelink estimate can change quickly
A change in hours worked, casual income, rent, relationship status, dependent children or partner income can change an estimated payment. Some rates are indexed during the year, so a result should always be read with the review date shown on the page.
How to use the Centrelink pages
- Use the calculator for planning and comparison, not as an official entitlement decision.
- Enter income for the relevant period and compare the result with and without employment income.
- Check rent assistance separately if your rent, family structure or payment type changes.
- Use Family Tax Benefit and Child Care Subsidy calculators for family-specific estimates.
- Confirm final eligibility and reporting requirements with Services Australia.
